Making Linear Measurements
Sometimes a regular ruler is not the best for measuring things smaller than 2 or 3 inches. For this (inches), the dial caliper was invented to help determine fractions of an inch. In this activity, a dial caliper is used to measure multiple objects/drawings.
Conclusions
1. What additional tools may have helped to measure these parts?
A ruler would have helped for measuring the larger objects.
2. Revisit number 1 above. Measure at least five of the dimensions of your part using a standard ruler and record the measurements in brackets
next to each caliper measurement. Which measuring device (the caliper or the ruler) provides the best measurements? Why?
The dial caliper was better at providing measurements, for it provided the most accurate measurements.
